Update on Dr. Ali Hussein

We want to share a difficult but important update about Dr. Ali Hussein.

Dr. Ali is currently hospitalized in Nabatieh—the very place he was traveling to serve when the attack occurred. He had been on one of his regular visits, which he makes several times a week to care for patients in need. At the time, his car was filled with the supplies, tools, and equipment he relies on for his work. Tragically, all of it was destroyed in the strike.

In addition to medical supplies, Dr. Ali was also transporting food to the village, where access has been severely limited due to the lack of a functioning bakery. The bread he was carrying—part of SCM’s efforts to support residents—was also lost.

Dr. Ali’s condition remains critical. He is in and out of consciousness and has undergone significant medical intervention, including the placement of a drainage tube in his head. While his hands and arms appear unharmed, his long-term recovery remains uncertain. Doctors have indicated that, if he recovers, there is hope he may one day return to practice. However, it is still unclear whether he will be able to walk again—only time will tell.

This devastating attack has not only gravely injured Dr. Ali, but has also deprived the people of Nabatieh of both essential medical care and much-needed food support.

SCM is praying for Dr. Ali’s recovery and is already working to replace the lost equipment and supplies so that his vital work can continue. Once his condition stabilizes, there are plans to transfer him to the American University of Beirut hospital for further care.

We will continue to keep you updated.
