Boot Distribution

Photos are coming in now of the boots that are being purchased and distributed too refugees in Jordan. The volunteers went to several shops to get boots and delivered them to our warehouse so they can be loaded into the volunteers’ cars and vans. Our team went to an encampment yesterday (Friday Jan 17) in between Amman and the airport where they took the boots, blankets, hats and gloves, hand warmers, hot water bottles, and solar lanterns and other items in our warehouse, as well as some bread and cheese to supplement their food supplies.

We will have more photos soon as more boots are distributed.

Shark Tank Solar Entrepreneurs’ Next “Bright Idea” Launches on Kickstarter

CHICAGO, IL (PRWEB) FEBRUARY 07, 2017
The women behind solar start up LuminAID are innovators to keep an eye on — at least according to Forbes, and all five investors on Shark Tank! On February 7th, they’re launching their newest product on Kickstarter: the PackLite Max Phone Charger.

The PackLite Max Phone Charger is a powerful, ultra-bright lantern that packs down to less than 1″ thick and doubles as a solar phone charger for off-the-grid charging anywhere in the world. A “Give Light, Get Light” component will give backers the choice to provide a light to a Syrian refugee through one of LuminAID’s partner charities.

SCM is so pleased to be working with LuminAID to get solar lanterns into the hands of refugees in Greece and Jordan who don’t have a reliable and safe source of lighting.” said Rita Zawaideh, CEO of SCM, “Not only are the lanterns addressing a safety issue (fires from gas lanterns) but as more children are getting enrolled in schools, the more they need to be able to study in the evenings after the sun has gone down. It’s so important to support the children as they get back to their studies as they truly are the future of Syria.

Safe, Sustainable Lights for Refugees

Today we got some great news that will be a huge help to our Solar Lantern campaign. LuminAID, the makers of environmentally friendly, long lasting solar lanterns, has offered to match lantern purchases made for SCM on their website AND a special price. This is incredibly generous and will help us to provide much needed lighting for the dark winter months.

For a limited time, LuminAID will MATCH your purchases of the PackLite 16 light when you buy on behalf of the Salaam Cultural Museum. This allows you to purchase twice as many lights and have them all sent to SCM. In order to take advantage of this offer, please visit the special webpage LuminAID has created for all the details and to place your order.

This family suffered severe burns when a gas lantern tipped over in their caravan at Zaatari, setting the structure on fire. The father rushed in to the flames to rescue his baby daughter, pictured here in her mother’s arms. Solar lanterns will help avoid tragedies like this.

We will begin packing the lanterns we receive into suitcases going to Greece and Jordan as soon as we get them. The priority is Greece because lighting is limited in the camps.

We are happy to partner with LuminAID in providing safe, affordable lighting to the refugees. Not only are the lanterns addressing a safety issue (fires from gas lanterns) but as more children are enrolled in school now, the more they need to be able to study in the evenings after the sun has gone down.

Thank you to LuminAID for making this possible, and thank you to those who have already purchased lanterns through this program.
