M and R are two brothers, aged 17 and 13, both living with Cerebral Palsy and blindness. They live in a modest home with their mother and grandparents, who have become their main support system.
When M, the older brother, was born, his parents were overwhelmed and confused by his condition. A few years later, hoping for a different outcome, they made the difficult decision to have another child. But R was born with the same condition as his brother. This brought an even greater emotional and practical challenge to the family.
Their father, unable to cope with the situation, eventually left. This left their mother alone, struggling with not only the demands of caring for two children with severe disabilities, but also with the deep emotional wounds of abandonment and helplessness. Her mental health deteriorated, and she found herself unable to properly care for her children or herself.
At this crucial time, the children’s grandparents stepped in. Their grandmother, in particular, became the anchor of the household, taking on the responsibility of caring for M and R. However, the family’s financial resources were extremely limited.
As the boys grew, it became clear they needed urgent dental care, something beyond the family’s means. That’s when a neighbor told the grandmother about SCM, a clinic known for supporting people in need. With hope, she reached out to them.
SCM responded immediately. After conducting a detailed case study, the manager decided to help. Both the clinic manager and the dentist visited the family at home. The dentist performed a checkup and determined that both M and R required tooth extractions procedures that would normally be too costly for the family. SCM arranged for them to receive the surgeries at their clinic, completely free of charge.
In addition to caring for the boys, SCM’s psychologist is now offering free therapy sessions to their mother, helping her process the trauma she has experienced, not only from raising two children with severe needs, but also from the emotional shock of her husband’s departure, abandonment and years of silent struggle.
At SCM, helping those in need goes beyond medical care it’s about restoring dignity, providing emotional support, and reminding people that they are not alone. Through every step of this family’s journey, SCM has walked beside them with compassion, respect, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference.
