A New Day For Syria: SCM’s Reflection and Hope
In 2013, Salaam Cultural Museum (SCM) responded to the unfolding tragedy in Syria by providing critical aid, including medical supplies and ambulances, to civilian groups treating those injured in the early days of the Syrian civil war. Our work quickly expanded to organizing medical missions to Jordan, where thousands upon thousands of Syrians sought refuge from the devastation.
In the camps, we witnessed unimaginable heartbreak and resilience. We heard stories of terror from people who had fled bombings, endured loss, and carried scars both visible and hidden. Many needed urgent care for chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Thanks to the dedication of our doctors, nurses, dentists, and humanitarian volunteers—and the unwavering generosity of our donors—we were able to offer life-saving care and compassion. To our supporters, we extend our deepest gratitude: you have truly saved lives.
Throughout the years, the Syrian people we served spoke of their enduring dream to return home one day. For many, that dream felt impossibly distant, and they poured their energy into building new lives in their host countries. But now, with the recent collapse of the Assad regime and the possibility of a new future for Syria, that long-held hope seems within reach.
We are heartened by reports that prisoners held in the infamous Sednaya prison are being freed, returning to their homes where they may reunite with loved ones or at least find closure. This marks the beginning of what we hope will be a long process of healing and rebuilding for Syria as a nation.
SCM has already been approached about coordinating medical missions into Syria. While we are eager to provide aid and support, the situation remains fragile. It is too soon to determine the feasibility of sending mission teams. We are closely monitoring developments, particularly the security landscape and the re-establishment of civil authority in key areas. As soon as it is safe and practical, we will explore ways to bring medical care and humanitarian support directly to the people of Syria.
To the people of Syria, we extend our heartfelt congratulations on this new chapter for your country. While many challenges lie ahead, there is now a glimmer of hope for a better tomorrow. SCM stands ready to support you on this journey, and we share in your hope for healing, rebuilding, and the return of peace.
We will keep our community updated as plans for future missions develop. Together, we can continue to make a difference.
